Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Orchid is one live, permission-aware model of how a company runs, built from four primitives that agents can act on: entities, knowledge, trackers and actions. The first phase reads, so a client's own assistant answers from the model instead of guessing. The next phase acts, with agents drafting and a person sending. The problems in retrieval, permissions and correctness are hard.

This role owns parts of it outright. In a team this size, seniority means deciding what gets built and making the call when two reasonable approaches disagree. It does not mean managing people.

Responsibilities

• Design and build substantial features end to end, and answer for how they behave in production.
• Make the architectural calls on the data model, the retrieval layer and how agents are given permission to act.
• Raise the standard through code review and the conventions you set, not by writing a document about them.
• Work with the delivery team so what clients need arrives in the product, instead of being rebuilt per client forever.
• Bring junior engineers on. Not a management line, but the team gets better or it does not.

You may be a good fit if you

• Have several years building and running production software, including systems you were on the hook for when they broke.
• Write strong TypeScript, with depth in either the data layer or distributed systems.
• Have inherited an over-engineered system and know what it cost.
• Can work without a specification, and write the specification when that is what is missing.

Strong candidates may also have

• Experience with retrieval systems, vector search or knowledge graphs.
• Early-stage product experience, where the requirement moves.
