Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

A forward deployed engineer goes into a client, learns how the business actually runs, and builds. Not a consultant who writes a report and leaves. Not an engineer who takes a ticket and never meets the person who raised it. Both halves matter, and most people are stronger at one.

In practice you are on site four days a week inside an operations team, a finance team or a technical desk. You watch the work, find the step where a document becomes an entry, and build something that takes it on. Then you measure whether it did, honestly, including when it did not.

Responsibilities

• Run discovery inside a client: interviews, process mapping, and getting to the number that says how long something takes today.
• Build the workflows that follow, on the client's own systems and data. Most of the job is configuring what the client already owns, not writing something new.
• Take a baseline before the work and again after. Write up what changed, including where nothing did.
• Train the client's people to run what you built, so the engagement ends with capability rather than dependency.
• Bring what you learn back into the product. The patterns that repeat across clients are what Orchid is built from.

You may be a good fit if you

• Have a real technical background. You can read an unfamiliar codebase, write production code, and work with APIs, data and the usual web stack without hand-holding.
• Have delivered work for clients or internal stakeholders where the requirement was not written down when you arrived.
• Can sit with someone who is sceptical about AI, ask good questions, and leave them better disposed than you found them.
• Know what not to build. Most of the value in this job is picking the one of ten possible things worth doing.
• Are comfortable being the only Nomad person in the room.

Strong candidates may also have

• Experience with ERP, CRM or similar systems of record, and the reality of integrating with them.
• Time in a regulated or safety-conscious industry, where a wrong answer has consequences.

Salary

€60,000 to €100,000 a year, gross. Junior to senior. Where you land in the band follows what you have already built and run.
